Porcelain Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain which are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. Each Porcelain Veneer is individually sculpted to uniquely fit each individual patient. The Porcelain Veneer closely mimics enamel and is almost impossible to distinguish from natural teeth.
Porcelain Veneers are indicated for healthy teeth (those without extensive restorations – i.e., prior bonding or crowns). A small amount of enamel is removed from the front of the surface of the tooth (this is a non-reversible procedure). In some limited cases, non-prep Porcelain Veneers can be applied.
We begin the process with a Smile Analysis and a consultation with Dr. Rowland to determine your desires. Most cases will require a mock-up on a model, or in some cases, directly in your mouth. Once the parameters are decided upon, the ceramist will create your individual smile based on our specifications.
Once bonded to the teeth, Porcelain Veneers are very strong and durable, lasting anywhere from ten to fifteen years or more. They will not change color or stain. The only maintenance for Porcelain Veneers, besides your normal recare visit with your hygienist, is good brushing and flossing (at least twice daily!)
